Exercise

To exercise is to make use of the right granted by a contract. For example, if an investor is the holder of a call option contract to purchase 100 shares of ABC at $45 and ABC is currently trading at $80, the holder of the contract may choose to make use of, or exercise, their contract to purchase the shares at $45.
