Gap

A gap may be best defined as a release of pent up buying or selling pressure. A gap results when there is a significant price movement between two sessions. Generally, one day's trading range does not overlap another. A gap will result in a visual void on a trading chart. A gap is often the result of some extraordinary news about the company.
