The New York Stock Exchange is the oldest and largest stock exchange in the United States and was founded in 1792. Located on Wall Street in New York City, the NYSE is commonly referred to as the Exchange or the Big Board. The Exchange has the strictest requirements for becoming listed. This is where many of the nation's largest, well-established and best-known companies are listed. The New York Stock Exchange is responsible for setting policy, listing securities, supervising member activities and evaluating applicants. Trading hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
