Retention Rate

The Retention Rate refers to the percentage of net earnings, or after-tax profits, that are available to be re-invested in the company after dividends have been distributed to shareholders. This is the inverse of the Dividend Payout Ratio. For example, if the Dividend Payout Ratio is 75 percent, than the Retention Rate is 25 percent.
