Index Traders: I went through all of my notes, and while I know I wrote it down in my StockTrader's Almanac, but I can't find when the last date we saw a plethora of buy/sell program premiums like we did today.

It is rare to note so many, but over the years that I've followed these premium al_rts, it seems like there is a BIG move within the next day or two.

I looked at today's SPX option chain, but most of the action was in April 1,185 Puts (28,041:40,030) with DnTick/UpTick 7,612:1,200 and the April 1,205 Puts (17,701:42,800) with DnTick/UpTick 2,111:14,805.

Here's today's SPX Option chain (my QCharts "Title" are messed up again, but they are the correct SPX call/put strikes) at this Link

The June 1,310 call/put action looks very, very, very post-quarter-expiration related and perhaps the defining of a range, say 27.50 either side of 1,310 for Q2.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) alert $34.37 -0.20% ... Noticing after hours action with stock higher at $35.23.

Seeing some comment that Dell Computer's (DELL) recent acquisition of PC maker Alienware, which uses both INTC and AMD processors, may give AMD an "inroad" to DELL, which sells Intel-based PCs exclusively.

Earlier this morning, Merrill Lynch, which has a "sell rating" on AMD and "buy rating" on INTC said/thought Microsoft Windows Vista delay may see a slowdown in the shift toward 64-bit processing and create near-term pricing pressures. Merrill's Joe Osha thinks the slower shift to 64-bit processing isn't good news for either Intel or Advanced Micro Devices, but could be worse at the margins for AMD.

Today's Activity ... No trades were profiled today.

PetroChina (PTR) Link did trade $102.00 in today's trade, which by my records (excluding "bad tick" on morning of 03/02/06 to $102.00) any trader SHORT THE UNDERLYING shares should be moving to the sidelines, or monitoring very closely here as the PnF chart triggers the "triple top buy signal."

As of tonight's close, Dorsey/Wright's Bullish % for Oil (BPOIL) remains in "bear confirmed" status at 45.73%, but is getting close to reversing up to "bear correction" at 46%.

Traders looking LONG on PTR may want to trade lightly and be al_rt for any type of near-term (next day or two) quick reversal back below $98.00 on the PnF chart, without the sector bullish % reversing up. Such action could have today's PnF chart action signaling a "bull trap," which is depicted by the triple top buy signal when the associated sector is in "bear confirmed" status.

Mining and Mineral Sciences ... DJ - Gulf of Mexico Output Largely Flat vs. Two Weeks Ago.

DJ - U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil and gas output stayed largely flat over the past two weeks, the Minerals Management Service said Wednesday.

About 343,172 barrels of oil a day, or 22.9% of daily production in the Gulf, remained off line, down from 23% on March 8, when the data were last published by the federal agency. The recovery represents an increase of just 5,081 b/d in oil production.

Shut-in gas production averaged 1.393 billion cubic feet a day, or 13.9% of gas production in the region, down from 14% on March 8.

The MMS has been publishing shut-in reports every two weeks since Jan. 11, due to the small variation in statistics expected over the coming months. The next report will be released April 5.

The MMS has said it expects 255,000 b/d of oil and 400 MMcf/d of gas in offshore Gulf production to remain shut-in prior to the start of the next hurricane season on June 1.

Cumulative lost oil production since Aug. 26 - when Hurricane Katrina triggered the first wave of evacuations in the Gulf - on Wednesday reached about 139.4 million barrels of oil, or 25.5% of yearly Gulf crude output.

Total lost natural gas production amounted to approximately 692.3 bcf, or 19% of the region's annual gas output.

Some 87 offshore platforms remained evacuated Wednesday, the same number as March 8. These evacuations represent about 10.6% of the Gulf's manned platforms, the MMS said.
