DJ- Mitsubishi Corp. considering buying Isuzu shares from General Motors.

Japan's February Industrial Output fell 1.7% on month vs. expectations of +0.1%

Japanese companies forecast March Industrial Output +0.3% on month

Japanese companies forecast April Industrial Output +3.1% on month

DJ brief- Japanese industrial production fell 1.7% on month in February for the first decline in seven months, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Thursday, but the result is unlikely to change the view that the manufacturing sector is on a firm footing overall.

Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires estimated on average that industrial production would increase 0.1% from the previous month after adjustment for seasonal factors. Industrial output grew 0.4% on month in January and 1.3% in December.

Shipments in February fell 2.8% on month, while inventories lifted 0.3%, the data showed. As a result, the ratio of inventories to shipments increased to 2.9% on month.

Manufacturers, who produce most of Japan's industrial goods, said they expect industrial output to expand 0.3% on month in March, and grow 3.1% in April.

The METI left unchanged its assessment that output is in a gradual upward trend.

Dateline WSJ The European Union's top antitrust regulator has sent a letter to Microsoft Corp., warning the company that it won't be allowed to sell its new Windows Vista operating system in Europe if it comes prepackaged with certain features.

"We expect that Microsoft will design Vista in a way which is in line with the European competition laws," Neelie Kroes, the EU's antitrust commissioner, said in an interview. "It would be rather stupid to design something that is not."

Ms. Kroes said she sent Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer a letter last week outlining her concerns, which mirror those in a continuing, seven-year-long dispute between the EU and Microsoft over software packaged with its current Windows operating system.

...Ms. Kroes's spokesman, Jonathan Todd, said that the EU is concerned about Microsoft's plans for Internet search. Google Inc. and other Internet-search services have said they are concerned that Microsoft could use its Internet Explorer 7 Web browser to unfairly direct computer users to Microsoft's own search service. Microsoft says it will include ways to set the browser to its competitors' services.
