See you in the morning!

Jeff Bailey : 6/21/2006 2:24:03 AM

Here's a partial list of Transport/Non Air stocks that Dorsey/Wright has in their sector bullish %. It gives Trend Signal (above/below trend), Trend Col (currently column of O, or X), RS Mkt Signals (is stock's relative strength on a "buy" or "sell" signal vs. broader market?), RS Mkt Column (is RS currently column of O, or X). Link

Here's ABFS Link and it is Buy trend (above trend); currently in a column of O; Dorsey uses the Dow Industrials for the market RS Link

I like to also look at a RS chart and broader measure like the S&P 500 Link

I placed a few closing prices at different stocks, with different technicals simply as benchmarks.

Institutions love these quick technical screens for pairs trades, picking up themes.

EXPD Link has just about everything a bull wants, but risk/reward for entry unfavorable in my opinion. Risking to $90 (risk to sell signal) to potentially make $19 (currently building bullish vertical count).

05/12-6/20 NH/NL Data found at this Link

One could say, "there was absolutely no bullish leadership in the SPX today."

See how quickly the 5-day NH/NL ratios (columns AE and AJ) bounced back in late May (rows 848 and 849)? The NYSE's 5-day couldn't make it back to "midfield" of 50% and NSDQ was there for about 2-days.

Do you sense/observe that it is taking even longer now?

One thing a "market internals" analyst needs to be careful of when using ratios, is that the playing field is 0% to 100%. When we've got weakness we need to monitor the tail or new lows. Remember how an inchworm moves.

The NYSE NL reading (column T : row 842) and recently (column T : row 860) is perhaps the best observation softening at the bottom. For a DAILY Ratio similarity (column AD : Rows 842, 859, 865).

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Crude futures were steady near $69 a barrel Tuesday and some analysts said the monthlong seesawing of oil prices around this level suggests a fair price may have been reached, at least in the short term.

Holding prices up are concerns about possible supply disruptions stemming from hurricanes and the diplomatic standoff between the West and Iran over Tehran's nuclear ambitions, analysts said. Weighing them down is the slowdown in global economic growth and fears that rising interest rates could accelerate this trend.

"Crude around $70 can coincide with a soft landing" for the world's economy, said James Cordier, president of Liberty Trading in Tampa, Fla.

Although the Compq is not making that many new highs, the new lows are not that many either. I would like to see some sort of wash out sell-off.

I've been posting recently some market sentiment charts, that are near extreme bearish levels and indicators that are oversold. However, these indicators are more a measure of trader sentiment than investor sentiment. If the general publice becomes bearish, then look out. So...for now we could see a traders rally. Advanced Micro Devices, Intel Corp.'s largest competitor in computer chips, added 15 cents to $25.10 in Germany. Pang also boosted the rating on Applied Materials Inc., the biggest maker of chip-production equipment, to "overweight" from "neutral weight." Its shares rose 28 cents to $16.59. Link

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- The bodies of two U.S. soldiers who had been reported kidnapped have been found near the checkpoint where the men disappeared after an attack, a senior Iraqi military official said Tuesday. A U.S. military spokesman in Iraq has refused to confirm or deny reports that remains of missing soldiers were found.

Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston and Pfc. Thomas L. Tucker, 25, of Madras, Ore., went missing Friday near the town of Youssifiyah, south of Baghdad. Spc. David J. Babineau, 25, of Springfield, Mass., was killed in the attack.

All were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Ky.

Jane Fox : 6/20/2006 8:41:38 AM

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Construction of new homes and apartments, after posting three straight months of declines, increased in May, helped by dry weather.

The Commerce Department reported that builders started construction at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.957 million units last month, an increase of 5 percent from the April construction pace. The better-than-expected increase came after declines of 5.5 percent in April, 7.5 percent in March and 5.9 percent in February.

Analysts attributed the increase to an unusually dry spring in many parts of the country which allowed builders to start work on more new homes. But they cautioned that construction activity is likely to slide further in coming months as the housing industry slows under the impact of rising mortgage rates.

In a sign of that expected slowdown, permits for new construction dropped by 2.1 percent in May to an annual rate of 1.932 million units.
