Brookfield Homes - BHS - close: 47.75 chg: +1.70 stop: 42.95

Homebuilders turned in a strong performance today as investors sought to buy the builders as bond yields fell pulling mortgage rates lower with them. Shares of BHS outpaced its peers with a 3.69 percent gain. The stock gapped up and traded to $48.25 on an intraday basis before closing under the $48 level. This is a big improvement over last week's consolidation, which appeared to be pointing to more weakness ahead. Volume on today's gains was very big at more than three times the norm. While we are encouraged by the rally the major stock indices remain overbought and any dip could have BHS filling the gap from this morning's open. We are going to adjust our target to $49.50-50.00.

Sirius Satellite Radio - SIRI - cls: 5.67 chg: +0.02 stop: 5.19

Shares of SIRI traded toward $5.80 near its 100-dma before sliding back. We would expect shares to dip into the 5.50-5.40 region, where traders can use a bounce as a new bullish entry point. No changes from our previous update on 05/22/05.

Short Play Updates

A.S.V.Inc. - ASVI - close: 35.13 change: -0.14 stop: 35.31

Since we remain unopened and on the sidelines in ASVI we're not quite ready to give up just yet. Our strategy is to short the stock if shares hit our entry point of $33.99, under short-term support at the $34.00 level.

Ball Corp - BLL - close: 37.85 chg: +0.76 stop: 39.05

An article in the WSJ discussed the packaging industry, of which BLL is a major producer of metal cans, and the analyst discussing the sector published positive comments about the group's pricing power. This led BLL to a two-percent gain today but the rally failed near resistance at $38.00. Normally we might suggest new bearish entries with a failed rally at resistance but this is not a strong market for bearish plays. We are not suggesting new positions at this time.

Mylan Labs - MYL - close: 16.41 change: +0.28 stop: 16.51

Red alert! It looks like shorts are on the run here and trying to cover themselves. MYL added anther 1.7 percent, which significantly out performed the DRG drug index. The stock hit an intraday high of $16.50, which is one-cent from our stop loss. It would appear that MYL is poised to breakout over the $16.50 level tomorrow. We are suggesting that readers close their positions to avoid further losses.

Closed Long Plays

Phazar Corp - ANTP - close: 24.56 change: +4.96 stop: 17.99

Whoa! Talk about unexpected. Momentum traders overpowered the shorts in this volatile stock and sent shares soaring. ANTP opened at $20.15 and quickly powered through resistance at its 50-dma, then at the $22.00 level and then past our target in the $23.00-24.00 range. Volume was almost four times the average. This is probably our fastest play yet to have the stock hit both our trigger to go long and our exit in the same session. If you read the Sunday play description our trigger to go long was $20.25. Our target was the $23.00-24.00 range. We are closing the play and after a 25 percent gain in share price traders can probably expect some profit taking pretty soon.

Closed Short Plays

UST Inc - UST - close: 45.11 change: +0.91 stop: 46.01

Unexpected and unexplained strength in UST today looks like our cue to exit. The rally and breakout over the $45.00 level looks dangerous if you're short this stock and we would rather exit now to avoid further losses than see UST pierce its 200-dma overhead. The $45.00 level was broken support so it should have been resistance but it obviously didn't hold today.
