Long Play Updates

LM Ericsson - ERICY - close: 34.88 chg: -0.50 stop: 33.75

Hmm... ERICY is showing a little more weakness than expected. We were looking for a dip toward 35.50-35.00 but expected the 35 level to act as support. Today's action has us turning a little big defensive. We would not suggest new plays here and traders should probably double-check their stops to make sure they're comfortable with them. We'll keep our stop loss under the 50-dma.

Picked on August 03 at $35.19

Short Play Updates

Assured Guaranty - AGO - close: 22.36 chg: +0.21 stop: 23.26

We have been expecting a bounce and AGO provided one today. Don't be surprised to see this oversold bounce reach the 22.75-23.00 region but we'd be a lot more excited if the simple 10-dma held the rally in check right here at 22.40.

There is nothing new to report on for ASVI. Shares traded sideways in a very narrow range today. We are not suggesting new positions. Our target is the 200-dma , now at 41.06.

Anheuser Busch - BUD - cls: 44.63 chg: +0.27 stop: 46.25

Short-term it might look like BUD is trying to build a base near the $44 level but longer-term the trend is bearish. Readers can watch for a failed rally under its 50-dma as a new entry point. Our target is the $40 region by its October earnings.

Picked on July 28 at $44.77

Hansen Natural - HANS - close: 42.51 chg: -0.87 stop: 47.51

We don't have anything new to say about HANS. The stock continues to consolidate sideways under its simple 50-dma, which is acting as overhead resistance. Our target is the $38-37 range.

Juniper Networks - JNPR - cls: 23.37 chg: -0.11 stop: 24.70

There is nothing new to say about JNPR. The stock continues to churn sideways in a tight range. The prevailing pattern is the bearish head-and-shoulders pattern that points to a $21.50 target.

Jos. A. Bank - JOSB - close: 38.38 change: -0.19 stop: 42.21

Retail stocks were generally weak today after more than one retailer guided lower for their third quarter earnings. Back to school sales have not been as hot as predicted. Shares of JOSB gapped down this morning but the afternoon bounce failed under its 100-dma. Our target is the $35.50-35.00 range.

LifePoint Hosp. - LPNT - cls: 45.74 chg: +0.15 stop: 47.26

Unfortunately, we have nothing new to report on for LPNT. The stock continues to churn between round-number support at $45.00 and technical resistance overhead at the 100-dma. We would not suggest new positions until LPNT traded back under the $44.90 level. Our target is the simple 200-dma.

Royal Caribbean - RCL - cls: 44.40 chg: +0.43 stop: 47.01

Oddly enough both RCL and CCL produced a sudden show of strength today. Both stocks turned in gains although the four-week trend is definitely a bearish one for both stocks. A failed rally under $45.00 can be used as a new entry point for shorts. Our target is the $41.25-41.00 range.

Target achieved. ATYT under performed the NASDAQ and the SOX with a 2.69% decline today after failing at the $12.00 level early this morning for the fifth time in a row. The company also issued a press release in response to a mini-tender offer. Shares finally hit the top of our target trading range at $11.50 today so we're closing the play.
