Long Play Updates

Alliance Res. - ARLP - close: 39.39 chg: -0.13 stop: 37.49

Aggressive traders might want to use ARLP's intraday bounce from its lows today as a new bullish entry point. For the less adventuresome we'd wait for ARLP to breakout over the simple 100-dma currently at 40.58. Our target is the $44.00-45.00 range.

Picked on February 6 at $40.05

CEC Entertainment - CEC - cls: 37.64 chg: +0.26 stop: 35.18

We do not see any change from our previous updates on CEC. Our target is the $39.85-40.00 range.

Picked on February 1 at $37.61

Dominos Pizza - DPZ - close: 25.64 change: -0.18 stop: 24.45

We are trying to catch a breakout over resistance at $26.00. Our trigger to go long the stock is at $26.16. If triggered we'll target a rally into the $27.85-28.00 range. We do not want to hold over the February 21st earnings report.

Helen of Troy - HELE - close: 19.46 chg: +0.13 stop: 18.95*new*

We have nothing new to report on for HELE. Shares remain stuck in the $19.00-19.60 range. We are inching up our stop loss to $18.95. Our current target is the $21.00 level.

RC2 Corp. - RCRC - close: 35.24 chg: +0.14 stop: 34.49

There is no change from our previous update on RCRC. If RCRC doesn't breakout higher soon we'll drop it as a bullish candidate since the company's earnings report is nearing. Thus far we remain on the sidelines with a trigger to go long over resistance at $36.00 and its 200-dma. Our trigger is $36.05. If triggered we'll target a rally into the $39.00-40.00 range but we will plan to exit ahead of its February earnings report.

Knightsbridge Tankers - VLCCF - cls: 27.57 chg: -0.07 stop: 25.24

Yesterday we suggested that readers watch for a dip back toward $27.00 as a new entry point. That's what VLCCF provided this morning and bulls were quick to jump in. Our target is the $29.95-30.00 range. Watch out for potential resistance at the 100-dma.

Short Play Updates

Amer. Home Mtg - AHM - close: 28.01 change: -0.18 stop: 29.05

AHM sank to a new two-month low today and traded through our trigger to short the stock at $27.89. The afternoon bounce back above the $28.00 level is discouraging but the overall trend remains bearish. We would not suggest new shorts with AHM above $28.00. Look for another dip under $27.90 to initiate positions. Our target is the $25.25-25.00 range.

Picked on February 08 at $27.89
Change since picked: + 0.12
Earnings Date 04/27/06 (unconfirmed)
Average Daily Volume: 639 thousand

Cendant Corp. - CD - close: 15.96 change: +0.11 stop: 16.76

An oversold bounce in CD is not a surprise. Watch for the bounce to continue into the $16.25-16.50 region. A failed rally under $16.50 could be used as a new entry point. Our target is the $14.25-14.00 range. Our time frame is pretty quick. CD is due to report earnings on February 13th and we do not want to hold over the report.

Family Dollar Store - FDO - cls: 23.62 change: +0.28 stop: 24.51

If the bounce in FDO continues into tomorrow watch for a failed rally near $24.00 as a new entry point to consider shorts. Our target is the $20.50-20.00 range.

Picked on February 06 at $23.45

Flextronics - FLEX - close: 10.16 change: -0.01 stop: 10.55*new*

Semiconductor stocks are still showing relative strength but the bounce in FLEX today failed at its simple 10-dma. This looks like a new bearish entry point but we're not actually suggesting new positions at this time. Instead we're going to inch our stop loss down to $10.55. A drop under $9.95 would look like a safer entry point to short the stock. Our target is the $9.05-9.00 range.

Picked on February 05 at $10.02

Average Daily Volume: 7.0 million

Liz Claiborne - LIZ - close: 34.23 change: +0.47 stop: 34.75

Watch out! Wednesday was a somewhat volatile day for shares of LIZ. The stock dipped to $33.40 before rebounding back above the $34.00 level. Our trigger to short the stock was at $33.45 (a new 52-week low) so the play is now open. The failed breakdown under the bottom of its trading range looks like a bear trap yet at the same time the bounce failed to push through its trend of lower highs. We are not suggesting new plays at this time. Look for a new decline under $33.50 before considering new shorts. Our target is the $30.50-30.00 range.

Picked on February xx at $xx.xx <-- see TRIGGER

Average Daily Volume: 661 thousand

Nat.Res.Ptnrs - NRP - close: 52.04 change: -0.90 stop: 56.01

NRP continued to sell-off and broke down to new one-month lows today. This looks like another entry point for shorts. Our target is the $48.00-47.00 range. We do not want to hold over the late February earnings report.

Picked on February 02 at $53.01
Change since picked: - 0.97
Earnings Date 02/20/06 (unconfirmed)
Average Daily Volume: 79 thousand
