Long Play Updates
Digital Realty - DLR - close: 28.23 chg: -0.02 stop: 25.99
We are a little disappointed that DLR did not show more relative strength given the market-wide rally today. The stock seems to be struggling with the $28.50 level. We would still be ready for a dip back toward $27.00-27.50 as a potential entry point. Our target is the $29.75-30.00 range. We do not want to hold over the early May earnings report.
Picked on March 29 at $28.04
Denbury Res. - DNR - close: 32.44 change: +0.47 stop: 27.95
Oil stocks continued to rally in spite of a pull back in crude oil futures today. DNR added 1.47% however we would still be prepared for a dip to the 10-dma or the $30 level. Our target is unchanged in the $33.50-34.00 range.
Picked on March 26 at $30.47
Liberty Global - LBTYA - close: 21.00 chg: +0.16 stop: 19.49
LBTYA is still posting gains but the rally might be growing a bit tired here. Volume continues to come in strong. Watch for a dip back toward $20.50. Our target will be the $21.95-22.25 range.
Picked on April 02 at $20.47
LoJack Corp. - LOJN - close: 23.77 chg: +0.16 stop: 21.59
LOJN continues to consolidate sideways between support near the 50-dma and resistance at the 100-dma. After the close of trading today the stock was added to the S&P smallcap 600 index, which explains the massive volume today. Our target is the $26.25-26.50 range. We do not want to hold over the early May earnings report.
Picked on March 29 at $23.62
Nordson Corp. - NDSN - close: 48.95 change: -0.18 stop: 46.74
We are disappointed that NDSN did not participate in the market rally today. However, we would use today's dip as a new bullish entry point to get long the stock. More conservative traders may want to wait for a move over $50.00. Our target is the $53.00-53.50 range. We do not want to hold over the late May earnings report.
Picked on March 29 at $49.25
Oil States Intl. - OIS - close: 37.66 chg: +1.03 stop: 32.24
OIS turned in a strong session. Traders bought the dip near $36.00 and its 50-dma this morning. Volume was low, which is a yellow flag of concern, but we're not going to complain. Our target is the $41.00-42 range. We do not want to hold over the early May earnings report.
Picked on March 29 at $36.05
QuickLogic - QUIK - close: 5.91 chg: -0.22 stop: 5.19
The rally in QUIK may have been undermined by weakness in the SOX index and both under performed the wider market today. Then again QUIK was looking a bit extended and due for a pull back. Our target is the $7.25-7.50 range.
Picked on April 02 at $ 5.74
Trident Micro. - TRID - 29.66 chg: -0.16 stop: 27.49
Another rival issued an earnings warning today and naturally nervous investors pulled TRID lower but the stock halted the selling near the $29.00 level. We are not willing to give up yet but traders might want to wait for a new move over $30.50 before initiating new long positions. Our target will be the $33.00-33.50 range. We do not want to hold over the mid April earnings report.
Picked on March 26 at $30.50
Short Play Updates
Crown Castle Intl. - CCI - cls: 28.32 chg: -0.42 stop: 30.01
Resistance at the top of CCI's narrow, descending channel is holding but the stock is growing a bit oversold. More conservative traders may want to think about exiting early and booking a small gain here. We are not suggesting new positions. You may want to consider using a tighter stop loss. We're keeping ours at $30.01 for now. Currently our target is the $26.25 level but we're thinking about changing that toward the $27 region.
on March 15 at $29.36
Illumina - ILMN - close: 23.83 chg: +0.45 stop: 25.01
The widespread rally today helped ILMN post an oversold bounce. The good news is that volume on today's bounce was pretty low suggesting a lack of true buyers. We remain bearish. Our target is the $20.50-20.00 range. Actually we're targeting the 100-dma but we're using the range as or official target. Please note that this might be considered a high-risk, aggressive play. The latest data puts short interest at 7.8% of its 37.9 million-share float.
Picked on April 03 at $23.45
N.Y.Times - NYT - close: 25.36 change: -0.06 stop: 26.01
More conservative traders may want to tighten their stop losses. We're keeping ours at $26.01 for now but it might be a good idea to use a stop near $25.76 or $25.65 to reduce risk. We're encouraged that NYT did not participate in the rally today but shares are not seeing any follow through lower either. We are not suggesting new positions. Our target is the $24.00 level. We do not want to hold over the April 13th earnings report.
Picked on March 22 at $25.55
Tribune Co. - TRB - close: 27.50 change: +0.03 stop: 30.01
The good news here is that TRB did not participate in the market-wide rally today either. We see no change from our weekend update. We are not suggesting new plays at this time. Our target is the $26.50-26.00 range. We do not want to hold over the April earnings report.
Picked on March 19 at $29.36

Smurfit-Stone - SSCC - close: 13.30 chg: -0.42 stop: 12.99
We are throwing in the towel on SSCC and choosing an early exit. Yesterday's failed rally continued into today's session. SSCC under performed the markets and lost 3% on above average volume. More aggressive players may want to keep the play open since the stock does still have support near the $13.00 level. We'll keep an eye on SSCC for a breakout over the $14.00 mark.
