Editor's Note:
It was a mild session for the market but we saw two trades get triggered STMP and TJX were both showing relative strength. Meanwhile I have removed TS as a candidate.

BULLISH Play Updates

Akamai Technologies - AKAM - close: 36.94 change: +0.19

Stop Loss: 34.95
Target(s): 39.75 & 41.50
Current Gain/Loss: + 0.3%
Time Frame: 4 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: AKAM produced a +0.5% bounce, which was good enough to outperform the major indices. I remain cautious here. I would not be surprised to see a drop toward the 40 or 50-dma. More aggressive traders may want to put their stop under the March low near $34.70.

current Position: Long AKAM stock @ $36.82

Long Apr $36 call (AKAM1217D36) entry $1.92

Abercrombie & Fitch - ANF - close: 52.31 change: -0.58

Stop Loss: 49.75
Target(s): 56.50
Current Gain/Loss: + 0.5%
Time Frame: 4 to 6 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: ANF gave back most of yesterday's gains. Shares remain above the simple 10-dma for now. If the market continues to sink lower we should expect ANF to test support near $50.00. At this point I'm not suggesting new positions at this time.

Earlier Comments:
We want to keep our position size small to limit our risk. There is potential resistance at the top of the November gap near $55.00. Plus the exponential 200-dma (near $54.40) and the simple 150-dma (near 55.15) could both be technical resistance. Our exit target is $56.50. FYI: The Point & Figure chart for ANF is bullish with a $69.00 target.

current Position: Long ANF stock @ $52.05

Broadcom Corp. - BRCM - close: 38.62 change: +0.23

Stop Loss: 36.45
Target(s): 44.00
Current Gain/Loss: - 0.3%
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: BRCM erased most of yesterday's decline after bouncing new short-term support at the $38.00 level again. If both BRCM and the S&P 500 open positive tomorrow we can use it as a new bullish entry point.

Meanwhile in news today BRCM paid $195 million for Broadlight, a privately held technology company focused on networking and fiber optic technology.

Earlier Comments:
The rise past $39.00 has created a brand new Point & Figure chart triple top breakout buy signal that is currently forecasting at $50 target.

current Position: Long BRCM stock @ $38.75

Long May $40 call (BRCM1219E40) Entry $1.52

Stop Loss: 34.75
Target(s): 39.50
Current Gain/Loss: + 3.1%
Time Frame: 4 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: That's two quiet days in a row for EBAY. The stock is drifting sideways in the $37.00-37.50 area. I am not suggesting new positions at this time.

I am leaving our stop loss at $34.75 for now but more conservative traders may want to adjust their stop closer to the $36.00 area.

The Hain Celestial Group - HAIN - close: 42.95 change: -0.17

Stop Loss: 41.40
Target(s): 44.75
Current Gain/Loss: + 5.1%
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: HAIN fell -0.39% and closed near prior resistance and what should be new short-term support at the $43.00 level. If the market's major indices continue to sink I would expect HAIN to fall toward the $42.00 area. More conservative traders may want to go ahead and take profits now. I am not suggesting new positions at this time.

Stop Loss: 24.70
Target(s): 29.00
Current Gain/Loss: + 4.5%
Time Frame: 4 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: It was a mild session for LVLT with shares chopping sideways in a 50-cent range most of the day. I don't see any changes from my prior comments. More conservative traders may want to take profits early because if the market dips LVLT nearest support is probably the $26.00 or $25.00 levels. I am not suggesting new positions at this time.

Earlier Comments:
The stock could see a short squeeze. The most recent data listed short interest at 26% of the 153 million-share float. FYI: The Point & Figure chart for LVLT is bullish with a long-term $41.50 target.

current Position: Long LVLT stock @ $26.17

- or -

Long Apr $25 call (LVLT1221D25) Entry $2.30

03/15/12 new stop loss @ 24.70, adjust exit target to $29.00

Stop Loss: 25.35
Target(s): 29.75
Current Gain/Loss: unopened
Time Frame: 4 to 8 weeks
New Positions: Yes, see below

Comments:
03/21 update: NXPI is still bouncing around the $25.40-26.40 zone. We are waiting for a breakout higher.

I am suggesting a trigger to open small bullish positions at $26.50. If triggered we'll use a stop loss at $25.35. Our upside target is $29.75. FYI: The Point & Figure chart for NXPI is bullish with a $45.00 target.

Petroleum Development - PETD - close: 38.65 change: -0.19

Stop Loss: 37.40
Target(s): 44.75
Current Gain/Loss: - 3.9%
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: The pullback in PETD doesn't look that bad but I am concerned about weakness in the OIX oil index and OSX oil services index. Both indices appear to be breaking down under their 50-dma. PETD is still hovering about what should be support in the $38.00-37.50 zone but if the energy sector breaks down further it could pull PETD down with it. I am not suggesting new positions at this time.

Our target is $44.75. More aggressive traders could aim higher. The Point & Figure chart for PETD is bullish with a $50.00 target.

Sturm, Ruger & Co. - RGR - close: 42.30 change: -0.36

Stop Loss: 41.75
Target(s): 49.50
Current Gain/Loss: - 3.9%
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: RGR has continued to drift lower and shares are testing short-term support near $42.00. If the market continues to sink tomorrow I would expect RGR to breakdown and hit our stop loss at $41.75. Fortunately, that is unlikely to happen. After the closing bell tonight RGR issued an update on its Q1 bookings.

RGR has so many orders for new "units" that they can't keep up with demand. Management said they had received orders for more than one million units and RGR had suspended acceptance of new orders. This news has pushed shares of RGR toward $47.00 in after hours trading. I am adjusting our exit target from $48.50 to $49.50.

Long Apr $45 call (RGR1221D45) Entry $1.45

Stamps.com Inc. - STMP - close: 28.26 change: +1.03

Stop Loss: 25.95
Target(s): 32.50
Current Gain/Loss: + 0.0%
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: STMP was showing relative strength today and broke out above short-term resistance near $28.00. Our trigger to open bullish positions at $28.25 has been hit.

Earlier Comments:
More conservative trades may want to wait for STMP to trade over its 5-dma near $28.60 before initiating positions instead. If the rally does continue we could see STMP accelerate due to short covering. The most recent data listed short interest at almost 16% of the very small 13.2 million share float.

This is a volatile stock. I am suggesting we keep our position size small to limit our risk.

Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: Our new play on TJX has been triggered. Retail stocks continue to show relative strength and TJX rallied to another new high.

The $40.00 level could offer some short-term resistance but we will set our first target at $41.50.

Stop Loss: 67.40
Target(s): 74.00
Current Gain/Loss: + 2.7%
Time Frame: 4 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: TTC continues to bounce after testing short-term support yesterday. Readers could use this bounce as a new bullish entry point. More conservative traders may want to use a tighter stop.

Our target is $74.00. FYI: The Point & Figure chart for TTC is bullish with a $79.00 target.

Stop Loss: 43.75
Target(s): 49.50
Current Gain/Loss: - 0.3%
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: The U.S. market lacked direction today and WYN drifted sideways near support at the $45 level. I am repeating my comments from yesterday. Readers may want to wait for a rebound back above $45.40 before considering new bullish positions.

Our multi-week target is $49.50. FYI: The Point & Figure chart for WYN is bullish with a long-term $82.00 target.

Greenbrier Companies - GBX - close: 22.16 change: +0.03

Stop Loss: 23.25
Target(s): 18.50
Current Gain/Loss: - 3.1%
Time Frame: 4 to 6 weeks
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/21 update: Bears are having a hard time pushing GBX down through technical support at its 300-dma. After the second failed attempt in two days I am not suggesting new positions at this time.

Earlier Comments:
Traders should be aware that the $20.00 level, with the 200-dma, could be short-term support but we are aiming for a drop to $18.50.

current Position: short GBX stock @ $21.50

03/17/12 Friday's intraday pullback from $23.00 can be used as a new bearish entry point.
03/14/12 triggered at $21.50

Stop Loss: 10.70
Target(s): 8.00
Current Gain/Loss: unopened
Time Frame: 3 to 6 weeks
New Positions: Yes, see below

Comments:
03/21 update: Hmm... HK is actually starting to show a little relative strength. If the stock continues to bounce tomorrow we will likely drop it as a bearish candidate.

Earlier Comments:
There is already relatively high short-interest (31%) so I am suggesting small positions. We will use a trigger to open bearish positions at $9.75 with a stop loss at $10.70. Our target is $8.00. More aggressive traders could target the 100-dma instead.

New Positions: Yes, see below

Comments:
03/21 update: Shares of TS are not cooperating. The stock has been breaking down the last couple of days. It is unlikely that shares will hit our entry trigger at $42.50 any time soon. I am dropping TS as a bullish candidate.
