Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 419 thousand
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: CRAY continued to show relative strength on Monday with a +3.2% gain and a bullish breakout past the $20.00 mark. Our trigger to launch bullish positions was hit at $20.15.

The plan was to keep our position size small to limit our risk.

*Small Positions*

Current Position: long CRAY stock @ $20.15

03/04/13 triggered @ $20.15

Gilead Sciences - GILD - close: 43.87 change: +0.42

Stop Loss: 41.85
Target(s): 44.85
Current Gain/Loss: +6.5%

Entry on February 14 at $41.18
Listed on February 13, 2013
Time Frame: 4 to 8 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 8.0 million
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: GILD is still pushing higher with a +0.9% gain. The stock is about to test the $44.00 mark. I am raising our stop loss to $41.85. More conservative traders may want to just take profits now or raise their stop loss closer to the simple 10-dma, which has been consistent support.

Earlier Comments:
We do want to keep our position size small. Biotech stocks can be volatile.
FYI: The Point & Figure chart for GILD is bullish with a $47.50 target.

*Small Positions*

current Position: Long GILD stock @ $41.18

03/04/13 new stop loss @ 41.85
03/02/13 new stop loss @ 41.40

NASDAQ OMX Group - NDAQ - close: 32.03 change: +0.45

Stop Loss: 30.75
Target(s): 34.85
Current Gain/Loss: + 1.5%

Entry on February 25 at $31.55
Listed on February 23, 2013
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 2.0 million
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: NDAQ displayed relative strength today with a +1.4% gain. Traders bought the dip at short-term support on the simple 10-dma this morning and the stock rallied to resistance at $32.00. I've been suggesting readers could use a breakout past $32.00 as a new bullish entry point although I'm not sure two cents really qualifies as a "breakout". NDAQ does look poised to breakout from its recent consolidation.

I did hear a news story that FinancialTimes (FT.com) published an article that said the NASDAQ market was actually losing money on some of its trading executions so it can keep the order flow. If that's true, I am surprised shares of NDAQ rallied today.

*Small Positions*

current Position: long NDAQ stock @ $31.55

- (or for more adventurous traders, try this option) -

Long Apr $33 call (NDAQ1320d33) entry $0.95

Entry on February 11 at $23.52
Listed on February 9, 2013
Time Frame: 9 to 12 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 4.8 million
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: PGR rebounded off its midday lows but gains were mild. I remain cautiously bullish here. Readers may want to take profits now and exit early.

I am not suggesting new positions at this time.

current Position: Long PGR stock @ $23.52

03/02/13 new stop loss @ 23.90
02/23/13 new stop loss @ 23.75

Shutterfly, Inc. - SFLY - close: 44.64 change: +1.24

Stop Loss: 40.95
Target(s): 48.50
Current Gain/Loss: + 3.2%

Entry on February 28 at $43.25
Listed on February 27, 2013
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 1.3 million
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: SFLY displayed relative strength with a +2.8% gain and a bullish breakout past short-term resistance at $44.00.

Earlier Comments:
SFLY could see another short squeeze. The most recent data listed short interest at nearly 40% of the small 28.6 million share float. I would keep our position size small as SFLY can be a volatile stock.

*Small Positions*

current Position: long SFLY stock @ $43.25

Symantec Corp - SYMC - close: 23.96 change: +0.28

New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: SYMC keeps the rally alive with its fifth gain in a row. Will the stock breakout past $24.00 or will it retreat? More conservative traders may want to take profits right now. Our March $23 call is currently up +178.9%.

I am raising our stop loss to $22.65 and I am adjusting the exit target down to $24.50.

*Small positions*

current Position: long SYMC stock @ $22.30

- (or for more adventurous traders, try this option) -

AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. - AU - close: 23.41 change: -0.64

Stop Loss: 25.55
Target(s): 20.25
Current Gain/Loss: +2.5%

Entry on March 01 at $24.01
Listed on February 28, 2013
Time Frame: 3 to 6 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 2.0 million
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: The sell-off in gold mining stocks accelerated today. The GDX gold mining ETF fell -3.2%. AU failed to keep pace with a -2.6% decline but AU did hit new multi-year lows.

Earlier Comments:
We want to keep our position size small because AU is arguably already short-term oversold. Of course it can grow a lot more oversold. Our target is $20.25. Readers may want to buy the put options, which can allow you to limit your risk to the cost of the option.
FYI: The Point & Figure chart for AU is bearish with a $13.00 target.

*Small Positions*

current Position: short AU stock @ $24.01

- (or for more adventurous traders, try this option) -

Long Apr $24 PUT (AU1320p24) entry $1.10

EMC Corp. - EMC - close: 23.22 change: -0.03

Current Gain/Loss: unopened

Entry on February -- at $--.--
Listed on February 25, 2013
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 27.4 million
New Positions: Yes, see below

Comments:
03/04/13: EMC didn't move much today. The stock is hovering just below its simple 10-dma. If we see EMC close above its simple 10-dma we will probably drop it as a bearish candidate. For now the plan is unchanged.

I am suggesting a trigger to open bearish positions at $22.65. If triggered our target is $20.15.

Trigger @ 22.65

Suggested Position: short EMC stock @ (trigger)

Entry on February 21 at $12.51
Listed on February 20, 2013
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 43.7 million
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: Shares of Ford managed a +1.1% gain. The stock has not yet broken the bearish trend of lower highs but we're concerned the stock could be nearing a bullish breakout higher.

I am suggesting investors exit positions at the open tomorrow morning.

Earlier Comments:
We do want to keep our position size small.

current Position: short F stock @ $12.51

03/04/13 prepare to exit at the open tomorrow

CLOSED BULLISH PLAYS

Verizon Comm. - VZ - close: 47.11 change: +0.39

Stop Loss: 44.95
Target(s): 46.95
Current Gain/Loss: + 3.2%

Entry on February 25 at $45.50
Listed on February 23, 2013
Time Frame: 6 to 8 weeks
Average Daily Volume = 12.9 million
New Positions: see below

Comments:
03/04/13: Target achieved.

I wish they were all this easy. Shares of VZ just posted their tenth gain in a row. The stock is nearing its multi-year high of $47.32 set last October. I suspect VZ will see some profit taking once it tags the old high. Our exit target was hit at $46.95 today.

Our plan was to keep our position size small to limit our risk. More aggressive traders may want to aim for the $50.00 area but you may have to be patient.

*Small Positions*

closed Position: Long VZ Stock @ $45.50 exit $46.95 (+3.2%)

03/04/13 target hit
03/02/13 new stop loss @ 44.95, adjust target to $46.95.
