The new closing high on the Dow and Russell 2000 has set the stage. The major indexes are poised to end 2017 at new highs with the potential for fund managers to try and spike the Dow to 25,000 and go out with a bang.
However, Friday does not matter in the larger scenario. It is next week that matters. There is a very good chance that whatever high is hit on Friday will not be seen again for a couple weeks. The market has been very lethargic and showing no excitement and no momentum. This suggests investors are just holding their breath until 2018 so they can sell at a lower tax rate. We do not want to buy a potential market top on Friday.
