The S&P is struggling to move over the 200-day at 2,743 and the year-end consensus at 2,750. These are formidable resistance levels the index hit just before noon and the gains for the rest of the day were limited to 2 points.
The algos and technical traders were working overtime trying to short those levels and it was enough to keep the S&P from making any further gains for four hours. Minor selling appeared in the last hour but there was a bounce into the close to regain those points.
